The North Face Aguila 23 is a 3-season backpacking tent that uses a hubbed-pole configuration that maximizes usable space and is easy to set up. Aguila has 2 doors and 2 large vestibules for convenient entry/exit and generous storage space.
North Face’s DAC® reverse-combi pole system is designed to maximize headroom and comfort by using different diameter poles. The tent uses quick snap together aluminum hub mechanisms attached via a bungie-rip cord material that eliminates unnecessary pole sections, reduces weight and makes setup a breeze. The rainfly is silicone and polyurethane coated to provide a high level of water repellency. The ripstop nylon canopy is fully seam sealed and nylon taffeta floor is fully taped for the ultimate in weather protection. Ultra fine mesh panels and doors provide high/low air circulation that inhibit condensation buildup. The canopy and rainfly webbing are color coded which ensures ease of setup. The tent also features adjustable stake out loops, internal pockets and hang loops, and reflective guyline loops and zipper pull cords.
The tent has a great space/weight ratio and is very easy to set up especially compared to my trusty old Coleman. The pole system is rather rigid and the inner tent has steep walls, 2 large doors with vestibules, and a quite good headroom. More than enough space for two people and their gear on extended kayak trips. The mesh adds to this sensation of roominess. There is decent floor space in the vestibule, but the walls arent steep.
The North Face Aguila 23 has proven itself waterproof and has endured a number of nights with rain without any leaking into the inner tent. I do wish there were some additional attachment points for guy-lines on the long sides of the rainfly though. I would also recommend any one who is going to buy this tent to also buy the footprint for extra protection and insulation. The footprint is extremely light and gives that extra level of protection and life to the tent.”
Overall, a nice compact design for your kayak adventures that has proven durable and easy to set up, which is especially nice after a long days’ paddle!
